About this place
Some visitors come to BAR SMokeSalt for a Gin Rickey, then find themselves equally impressed by the Gimlet, Daiquiri and Gin Fizz. The menu centres on classic cocktails, making it easy to start with a familiar favourite and then explore another drink that catches your eye. One guest described the Gin Rickey as crisp and refreshing, and also remembered the whisky and water as a standout.
The food menu includes smoked specialities to enjoy with a drink, such as Hiroshima oysters preserved in smoked oil, smoked cheese and smoked sujiko (salted salmon roe). For a light bite, there is a single serving of Super Snack Smoked Kaki no Tane; for something more substantial, try a sujiko rice ball made with house-smoked salt or bacon and cream cheese on toast. The menu notes that the kaki no tane is all-you-can-eat and cannot be shared, making it an easy choice when you’re snacking solo.
If you’re in the mood for whisky, consider the Islay highball, made with a blend of 3 types of Islay whisky aged together. The bar is described as having a quiet atmosphere in Higashi-Nakano and as being suitable for a meal alone. It accepts cash only, so it’s worth bringing some along.
